What is permanent makeup?
Permanent makeup is a procedure that involves implanting small amounts of pigment into the upper layer of the skin (the epidermis). When done correctly, it looks very similar to professionally applied makeup, with the difference that it stays on the skin day and night. Permanent makeup does not require special daily care, is waterproof, does not smudge, and stays in place. Its durability is usually between 1.5 and 3 years.
Does permanent makeup hurt?
Pain tolerance is a very individual matter and can vary from person to person. The procedure is not 100% painless, as it involves implanting pigment under the skin, so some discomfort may be felt. However, the pigment is not placed as deeply as in traditional tattooing, which makes the sensation much milder – and for some clients, barely noticeable. To minimize any discomfort, I use topical anesthetics in the form of numbing cream or gel.
How long does permanent makeup last?
Permanent makeup usually lasts between 1.5 and 3 years, but the durability varies from person to person and depends on several factors.
👉 Skin type – on oily skin the pigment may fade faster, while on dry skin it often stays more intense and visible for longer.
👉 Lifestyle – frequent sun exposure, tanning beds, or intensive cosmetic treatments (such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or laser therapy) can accelerate pigment fading.
👉 Aftercare – proper sun protection (SPF creams) and following all aftercare instructions help prolong the results.
👉 Individual metabolism – factors such as age, hormonal balance, and the body’s natural renewal processes influence how quickly the pigment lightens.
👉 Choice of color and technique – softer, natural shades tend to fade faster than intense colors.
Over time, permanent makeup doesn’t disappear completely but rather gradually fades.
It is generally recommended to schedule a color refresh every 12–24 months to maintain a fresh and defined look.
How should I take care of my skin right after the procedure?
- After the treatment, the skin may be red and slightly swollen. Don’t worry – the swelling usually subsides within 24 hours.
- The color immediately after pigmentation appears very intense, but it will fade by about 50% once healed.
- You may experience a feeling of tightness, burning, dryness, or itching. The treated area should be cleaned and moisturized only with products recommended by your permanent makeup artist.
- A thin scab (a mixture of pigment and lymph fluid) will form.
- After about 4 to 7 days, the scab will begin to peel off. At first, the color may look very pale, but it will return within 1–2 days. Losing part of the pigment is completely normal (around 30% for brows and up to 50% for lips).
- The complete healing process takes 6–8 weeks.
- Do not scratch or pick the skin during healing.
- Protect the pigmented area from direct sun exposure.
- Avoid sauna, swimming pool, tanning beds, and spa treatments for at least 2 weeks.

Is permanent makeup safe?
Yes. The procedure is performed in sterile conditions, using single-use needles and certified pigments. I strictly follow all hygiene and safety standards to ensure maximum comfort and protection for my clients.
